Joik, Songwriting and Live Music with ELLINOR
On 16 May 2026, Sámi artist ELLINOR from Norway joined young Sámi people in Lövånger, Sweden, for a joik and songwriting workshop and a concert.
During the workshop, ELLINOR shared her approach to making music and helped participants develop ideas for their own joiks and song lyrics. She also performed her contemporary Sámi music in what she described as her first concert on the Swedish side of Sápmi.
The visit was part of the annual meeting of Sáminuorra, Sweden’s Sámi youth organisation, which brought together young people from Sápmi and southern Sweden. It also marked the start of a collaboration between Sáminuorra and Norrlandsoperan.
The workshop and concert were supported by project partner Norrlandsoperan through Arctic Music Circles, presented under the Arctic Pulse name and co-funded by Interreg Aurora.
