Arctic Pulse Creative Camp in Bodø brought musicians and producers together across borders

On 23–24 October 2025, Arctic Pulse Creative Camp: Musician Gathering took place in Bodø, Norway. Organised by Musikk i Nordland and Nordnorsk Jazzsenter in collaboration with Norrbottensmusiken, the two-day camp brought together 11 musicians, along with producers and directors from Norway and Sweden, to develop stage-based music productions for children and youth audiences.

Over two intensive working days, participants presented ideas, tested material, received feedback, and developed works in progress in dialogue with directors, producers and fellow musicians. The camp created a practical space for artistic development, peer learning and cross-border exchange, with a clear focus on how music productions for young audiences can be strengthened and prepared for future performance contexts.

On the Norwegian side, recruitment included an open call for unfinished project ideas aimed at children aged 6–12. One of the participating Swedish ensembles worked with Meänkieli language and Tornedalian music and culture, bringing a clear minority-language and minority-culture perspective into the camp.

Alongside the artistic work, the gathering also created time for producers and project representatives to discuss future cooperation in music for children and youth across borders. These conversations focused on possible co-productions, touring models and school concert formats, and showed how the work started in Bodø can continue beyond the camp itself.

Participant feedback highlighted the value of focused development time, input from directors, and the opportunity to meet musicians and cultural workers from the neighbouring country. The responses also pointed to a clear interest in developing this type of format further in the future.

The work carried out in Bodø will continue to inform future Arctic Pulse collaboration in the Arctic region.
