Arctic Frequencies brought live electronic music from across the North to Luleå
On 29 May 2026, Ebeneser in Luleå hosted Arctic Frequencies — an evening of live electronic music and experimental club sounds from Sweden, Norway and Finland.
The event was part of Arctic Electronic Music Meetup – AEM 2026 and followed the meetup’s main conference and networking day. It gave audiences an opportunity to experience some of the different sounds, methods and artistic approaches represented within the electronic music scene in the North.
Five acts, five approaches to electronic music
The evening began with Stefan Östersjö and Alejandro Franco Briones, who combined live coding with charango in a performance where digital processes met an acoustic string instrument.
They were followed by Marcus Wrangö, whose live-electronic performance explored modular systems and the relationship between sound, technology and live performance.
From Tromsø, grisha223 presented experimental electronica shaped by sound, space and club culture.
The second half of the evening moved closer to the dance floor. Finnish project Sex Voltage performed a hardware-based acid set using drum machines, samplers and 303-style sounds.
The night ended with Illyana of PORTAALI, whose genre-fluid DJ set moved through dark soundscapes, experimental club music and unexpected shifts in mood and energy.
Together, the five acts took the audience from close listening and sonic experimentation to acid rhythms and late-night club sounds.
From conference conversations to a public stage
During the day, AEM participants had met through panels, presentations and conversations about electronic music across northern Sweden, Norway and Finland. Arctic Frequencies carried that exchange into the evening by giving artists from different local scenes a shared public stage.
The event also showed the breadth of electronic music beyond more familiar club formats. Live coding, acoustic instruments, modular electronics, experimental electronica, acid and DJ culture all became part of the same programme.
For audiences in Luleå, Arctic Frequencies offered a chance to discover artists and approaches that are not often presented together. For the participating artists, it created another point of connection within the wider AEM network.
The evening reflected an important part of the ambition behind AEM and Arctic Pulse: electronic music scenes grow not only through professional meetings and new contacts, but also through public spaces where the music can be heard, experienced and shared.
Arctic Frequencies was part of AEM 2026, organised by Arctic Pulse and Norrbottensmusiken together with Kulturföreningen Kluster, in collaboration with Joncell Productions.
